What We Do
Political and Security Risk Assessment
ISI provides governments, corporations, and financial institutions with structured assessments of political and security conditions in Southeast Europe and beyond. Our analysis informs decisions on investment, operations, policy, and strategy. In this part of the world, political conditions rarely deteriorate with advance notice.
Regional Analysis and Reporting
We produce regular, in-depth analyses and assessments of political developments across Serbia, the Western Balkans, and Southeast Europe. Our work covers political dynamics, security trends, and the increasing influence of external actors on regional stability. We write for clients who need to understand the region before engaging with it, as well as for those already involved who need to stay ahead.
Information Warfare and Strategic Communications
We monitor and analyse disinformation campaigns, propaganda narratives, and coordinated information operations. We advise institutions and organisations on identifying, countering, and responding to threats to their credibility, operations, or public standing. A reputation built over decades can be dismantled in days. We help clients anticipate this risk and respond when it occurs.
Economic and Investment Security
We assess the economic aspects of security: sanctions regimes, investment risk, energy dependencies, and supply chain vulnerabilities. For clients operating in politically sensitive markets, we provide analysis that due diligence alone cannot offer. The line between economic exposure and political exposure has never been thinner.
Digital Security and Cyber Threat Analysis
We assess cyber threats, analyse digital exposure, and provide forensic analysis for clients facing risks in the digital domain. Our work covers institutional and infrastructure security. The most serious threats to digital security are often discovered long after the damage has occurred.
EU and NATO Integration Advisory
We advise governments, institutions, and organisations on the political and regulatory implications of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. For companies entering markets in the region, we assess how integration processes affect the regulatory framework and investment conditions. Our counsel is based on direct experience with EU and NATO processes and a thorough understanding of the political landscape in which they operate.
International Security Institute
The security landscape of Southeast Europe is more complex, more contested, and more consequential than is generally understood. External pressures, unresolved political conflicts, and the systematic use of information as a weapon have made independent, rigorous analysis and assessment not a convenience but a necessity for governments, businesses, and institutions that cannot afford to misread the situation.
The International Security Institute was established in Belgrade in 2002 with a single purpose: to provide independent analysis and assessment enabling governments, institutions, and organisations to understand what is happening and make decisions based on fact rather than assumption.

For over two decades, we have tracked conflicts, mapped political and investment risk, monitored information warfare, and advised clients who cannot afford to be wrong. We are based in Southeast Europe because this region lies at the crossroads of competing powers, unresolved histories, and accelerating change. We write and advise on the world because our clients operate in it.
We are not aligned with any government, party, or ideology. That independence is not a disclaimer; it is the foundation of everything we do. When the stakes are high and the situation is unclear, that is precisely when it matters most.

Work with us
When situations are complex, fast-moving, or too consequential to assess without independent expertise, ISI is available for consultation, research, and advisory engagements.
The International Security Institute (ISI)
ISI brings together experts from universities, diplomacy, intelligence and security structures, law, economics, and media.
Our geographic focus is Southeast Europe and the Western Balkans, a region that has historically served as both a testing ground for external influence and a fault line between competing visions of the international order.
Independence as a Foundation of Analysis
We are independent of governments, political parties, and ideological agendas.
We accept no brief that compromises the integrity of our work. Governments, corporations, financial institutions, and international organisations engage ISI when they need analysis and assessments that are reliable, confidential, and free from political interference.
